Music plays a significant role in the weekly worship services at PRPC. At the 8:30 am service in York Chapel, our organist provides a prelude, postlude, offertory and accompanies all the hymns.
The Chancel Choir prepares music for the 10:30 am worship service and other special services from the Sunday after Labor Day through the second Sunday in July. The director of music plans, in conjunction with the organist and pastor, an introit, anthem and offertory piece for each Sunday, based upon the lectionary readings for the day. The choir sings music in many different styles and from various traditions.
The choir also presents two larger works with an orchestra each year. Past works include:
- • Mozart Requiem
- • Handel Messiah
- • Mendelssohn Elijah
- • Rutter Requiem
- • Haydn Theresienmesse
- • Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem
- • Bach Cantata 140
- • Bachman Tiny JP2 Rocks
- • Faure Requiem
If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact Tom Merrill, Director of Music. There is no audition to join the choir, please come and join us for a Thursday evening rehearsal. We rehearse in the Earl Snapp choir room from 7:30–9 pm. The choir meets at 10 am prior to the 10:30 service to warm-up and rehearse music for the service.
