Christian Education

Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church has a comprehensive educational ministry. This ministry has its goal of helping all ages to grow in faith and become mature disciples of Jesus Christ. Several options are available which provide different kinds of opportunities for spiritual growth. Please contact Mike Gillespie, DCE. Sunday School - Sunday Mornings, 9:15-10:15 (September-May)

Classes for all ages are available each Sunday morning.

Children

  • 3's-1st Grade- Room 200
  • 2nd-7th Graders - Room 202
  • Children's curriculum uses "Seasons of the Spirit" which utilizes a variety of experiences to help children engage the Bible and nurture their growing faith.

Youth

Teenagers currently serve as helpers in our children's classes.

Adults

The following two classes offer all ages of adults an opportunity to engage scripture and discuss its implications for living out the faith and growing as disciples.

  • Kemper Class: This class is currently studying the Book of John.
  • Library Class: Current study focuses on the topic of science and religiion using a half-hour video presentation followed by group discussion.

Youth Ministry

PRPC sponsors a well balanced ministry with teenagers. 6th-12th graders usually meet every other Sunday evening (6:30-8:00) for a time of fellowship, recreation, study, discussion, service, and prayer.

Special events during the year include lock-ins, mission trips, service projects, recreational outings, and others.

Bible Study/Discussion Groups

Horizon Bible Study - Monthly on the first Wednesday, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. This study uses the Horizon's Bible Study resource, Journeys Through Revelation: Aopcalyptic Hope for Today. The course is open to anyone (not just women) who would like to study scripture in-depth. It is taught by the D.C.E.

Kerygma

Various resources of the Kerygma Program are occasionally taught based on current interest in the congregation. The Bible In Depth and Discovering the Bible have been the primary resources for those studies. Currently, there are no Kerygma studies available.

Men's Discussion Group

A monthly men's discussion group meets with the pastor on Saturday mornings, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. The group has just finished the Ravi Zacharias video resource on Apologetics. Another series will be scheduled soon.

Seasonal Opportunities/Events Sponsored by the Christian Education Committee

Palm Parade on Palm Sunday

Children of all ages welcome worshippers on Palm Sunday with their spirited Palm Parade around the sanctuary.

Easter Egg Hunt

Easter morning all ages of children gather toward the end of the Sunday school hour for an annual Easter Egg hunt around the church grounds.

Vacation Bible School

Each July we sponsor a wonderful Vacation Bible School program for 3's-completed 5th graders. This evening program runs from Sunday-Thursday, 6:15-8:30 nightly. It is an exciting mix of crafts, singing, bible story adventures, recreation, and cool snacks. All children are welcome.

Advent Workshop

The second Sunday of December (5:00-7:00 p.m.) the congregation gathers for a fellowship time of craft making, pizza, and carol singing. It is a festive event especially geared to families of children, but all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend.
